Robert Michael Curran
Robert Curran passed away on April 18, 2021 in Novato, California. Rob grew up in Manhattan Beach, graduating from Pacific School, Manhattan Beach Intermediate, and Loyola High School. He played the usual youth sports – soccer, basketball, and baseball until the seventh grade, when he chose the locally organic sports of volleyball and surfing to love. In volleyball at Loyola High, he was voted All-League (Mission League) First Team, and that summer he was voted to the 2001 Junior Olympics All-Tournament Volleyball Team. He was also voted to the Western State Conference First Team in Volleyball while at El Camino College.
Rob was a true waterman, which tied in nicely to his Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science and Resource Management from California State University Channel Islands. His most recent job was as a naturalist guide for Monterey Kayak Company, where he became their most requested tour guide of Monterey Bay, because of his entertaining, humorous, and interactive tours. He became an expert in marine biology, but also in flora and fauna. In addition to surfing the California coast, he also surfed Hawaii, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Peru, Galapagos, Spain, France, Portugal, Fiji, and
Australia, while making friends all over the world. Rob lit up a room with his sense of humor, his kindness, and his love of dance, and he will be tremendously missed.
Rob is survived by his parents, Mike and Vicki Curran, his brother Sean Curran, his sister in-law Jocelyn Rheem Curran, his nephew Aedan, and his girlfriend Elena.
A memorial service will be planned for later this year, when COVID-19 will no longer present as great a danger.
