JULIE ANN MEIDROTH (MESSINGER)
August 23, 1943 – June 1, 2021

Julie was the much-loved mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend to many. Born in Mobridge, South Dakota, Julie was the eldest of three children born to Oliver and Frances Messinger. Her family moved to Manhattan Beach in 1949 where she attended Pacific, Grandview and Robinson Elementary schools, Center Junior High School, and Mira Costa High School, graduating in 1961. After starting a family and living in La Jolla for a few years, she and her family moved back to her beloved Manhattan Beach in 1975, where she lived the rest of her life.

Julie always loved to be active, social and busy. She enjoyed daily walks on the strand with her friends, always ending at Coffee Bean downtown. If there was an activity or a club to join, she joined it; Book club, Investment Club, PTA, Class Reunions, Badminton Club, Tennis, Neptunian Club, and Sandpipers to name a few. She was proud to be named Sandpiper of the Year in 1996. She was very active in the community and with her amazing 18th Street neighborhood for almost 50 years. She loved teaching swim lessons at the Badminton Club and helped many kids pass their JGs swim tests back in the day. Julie also took part in the Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair 10K and was a founding member of the P.I.E.R. group, those who Participated In Every Race.

She was a realtor in town for nearly 30 years with Shorewood Realtors, always maintaining the highest level of integrity and creating lifelong friends and clients.

She was an avid traveler and visited many countries throughout the world. Her favorite spot was Italy where she enjoyed the shopping, food and wine. She loved flowers and keeping her garden beautiful, and had an amazing knack for cooking. She and her late husband Tom Neal were huge UCLA fans and attended many basketball and football games over the years.

With her sons and families all residing locally in Manhattan Beach, they have remained a tight-knit bunch. She adored her four grandchildren and loved keeping up with their activities, school performances, hosted many sleepovers, and never missed a game (never).

Julie will be remembered as a great mother and sister, who opened her home to friends and her children's friends. She was a smart, kind, strong, and dependable person who loved her family, friends, and her community. She will be missed dearly.

Julie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Thomas Neal, and her brother, Rick Messinger. She is survived by her three sons, Greg (Cynthia), Mitchell, and Steve (Kelley), her grandchildren Chase, Connor, Cole and Sage Meidroth, her sister, Tere Messinger Dimperio (John), and her niece Kristen Dimperio, and her dog, Sammy.

A Celebration of Life will be held in July.
