Anne Aloyse Thorne
August 19, 1953 – December 26, 2021

On Sunday, Dec. 26, 2021, Anne Aloyse Thorne, long time resident of Redondo Beach, CA. passed away at the age of 68 at Caring House, an exemplary end-of-life hospice in Torrance, CA, following a year long battle with cancer.

Anne was born and raised in Sydney, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada. She was active in the local music and theatre scene, participating in various summer theatrical productions, and singing and playing bass in the soft rock band, Monopoly, that recorded a record at Thunder Sound in Halifax, Nova Scotia. After her graduation from Holy Angels High School in 1971, Anne completed a year of study at Saint Francis Xavier University, Sydney Campus (Xavier College), then went on to complete her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of Calgary, Alberta.

From there, Anne moved to California to pursue her life long interest in music and theatre, a passion born out of her upbringing in a musical family and her early exposure to the arts. In California, she continued this passion as the female lead in "Aladdin"; stage managed Torrance Community Theatre's production of "Jesus Christ Superstar; stage managed numerous community and variety show productions of Act II, Norris Theatre for the Performing Arts, Palos Verdes from 1994-1998; and served as one of four co-producers of "California Gold", Act II's production for California's Sesquicentennial State Anniversary celebration. At the same time, she set up her own business and pursued a career in professional bookkeeping from 1989 to 2008, as a member of the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers, Rockland, Maryland.

Anne was fit and active all her life and felt most at home by the ocean, or in nature. In 2008, at the age of 55 she completely changed her career and became a Certified Group Exercise Instructor with the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA). She went on to attain her AFAA Personal Fitness Training Certification in 2009 and a certification with the Aquatics Exercise Association. For the next 13 years, Anne developed a thriving business as a fitness instructor and personal trainer with the Arthritis Foundation, most notably its Silver Sneakers program, and with various clubs and private clients in the South Bay region. Her dedicated service to any one of any age and with any ailment, also fueled her participation in Pauly's Project, an organization that serves the homeless and destitute on skid row in Los Angeles. She met the homeless weekly, face-to-face, distributing clothing, hope, warmth and kindness through her beautiful smile, gentle encouragement and up lifting words. Anne was a very spiritual person with a deep belief in God.

Anne is survived by her best friend, Robert Olsen (Temecula, CA), her beloved siblings, Mary (Ottawa, ON), Patricia (Kelowna, B.C.), Marie (Guelph, ON) and George (Susan), (Ottawa, ON), nephews, Scotty (Welland, ON), David, Thomas and Sam (Ottawa, ON), and niece, Allie (Kelowna, B.C.) and her rescue cats, Red and Milo. Anne was predeceased by her loving parents, David and Alice (Poliski) Thorne, formerly of Sydney, N.S. Her bright smile, caring heart and feisty spirit is now at rest and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life is planned in 2022. In lieu of flowers, and if you wish to make a donation in Anne's memory please do so at: Paulys Project www.Paulysproject.org; Caring House www.yourcaringhouse.org; The Cancer Support Community – Redondo Beach www.cscrb.org.
