Thomas H. Kilpatrick Obituary
Thomas H. Kilpatrick, 83, of Torrance, California, died at home on August 18, 2018. He was born on December 2, 1934 to H. Cecil Kilpatrick and Bessie Smith Kilpatrick in Washington, DC.

After early education in St. Albans School, Thom received a BA in journalism from George Washington University. He was a writer and editor in the aerospace industry. In 1969, he received the Jesse H. Neal editorial achievement award for his report on microwaves in Vietnam.

He had a strong interest in photography, and his photographs have been shown in local exhibits. His imagination was stimulated by poetry and music. He volunteered for political causes. He was a great friend of animals, especially dogs. His first published writing, at a very young age, was about his dog.

He found great meaning in meditation. Not only was it the focus of his spiritual life, but meditation helped him while dealing with illness at the end of his life. He would listen with interest and respect to the life stories of friends. He was humorous, and enjoyed making others laugh. He cared deeply. He will be missed enormously by many.

He is survived by his wife, Lorna McClellan, his sister Ann Kilpatrick Webster, his niece Aen Walker Webster and many Kilpatrick relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Cecil, his wife Joan, and his wife Susan.
He had a final journey October 6, 2018 when his ashes were released by airplane into the ocean.

A memorial gathering will be at St. Paul's United Methodist church in Redondo Beach on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 10:45 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to honor his life may donate to Judson Memorial Church in New York City or to the Seva Foundation.
