Patricia Joan Shinham Jones passed away August 22, 2019, in Hermosa Beach, CA, four months after being diagnosed with Stage IV metastatic lung cancer.

She was born May 27, 1930, on the family farm in Washington County, MD, to Charles Robert Shinham and Harriet Josephine Mellott.

Pat served as Salutatorian of Hagerstown High School's graduating class of 1948. She married James Dunn Bowser of Williamsport, MD, and welcomed sons James, Jr. (Jimmy) and Fredric (Freddy). Although the marriage didn't last, her former in-laws set her up on a date with Frederick (Fred) W. Jones, Jr. Pat and Fred married in 1962 and moved to Melbourne Beach, FL, where daughter Jolisa and son Duane were born.

She graduated summa cum laude from Rollins College with a B.S. in Business Administration, and secured her CPA license. Pat then worked as an auditor for DCAA, both in Florida and California, where she retired in 2005.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents; husband Fred; sons Jimmy, Freddy and Duane; stepson Dennis. She is survived by daughter Jolisa Jones-Corey (Mike Corey); brother Charles Robert Shinham (Kathe); granddaughter Ariana Jones (Chris Langley); great-grandchildren Ivy and Kobe Langley; stepsons Frederick W. Jones III (Jill) and Rod Jones. We wish to thank the staff of Providence TrinityCare Hospice and Sunrise Senior Living of Hermosa Beach, especially Deanna and Doreen, who were so wonderful to Pat during her last few months.

As a final act of caring for others, Pat donated her body to science. A celebration of life will be held at 1:00pm Sunday, September 1, at Westchester Lutheran Church in Westchester, CA. A reception will follow the service at her home in Hermosa Beach. For details, please email jjcorey123@aol.com.

How dear and treasured Pat has always been and will always be in the fold of our family. Her kindness, generosity and willingness to help others are well known. Her writings were wonderful and her traditional handwritten letters are keepsakes. Her love of beauty in all things was inspirational. We will love you and remember you forever, dear Pat.

Pat,
Thank you for the one on one times we had together at the condo when you came back to visit here in Florida. They were priceless. You were a great friend whom I cherish. Until we meet again my friend.

I'm so sorry; my heart goes out to you for your loss. There are no words to express our sadness when a love one passes but our loving God knows how you feel and comforts us with His word. (John 6:40 NWT)
