Patricia Ann Nichols Obituary
Nichols, Patricia Ann
November 20, 1944 – July 29, 2016

Patricia "Patty" Nichols, a beloved and longtime resident of Manhattan Beach, California, passed away at the age of 71.

Born in Hollywood, Patty was the daughter of Frederick and Ruby Nichols. In the 50's, the family moved to Manhattan Beach where Patty spent most of her life. From early childhood, Patty cherished the beach and spent many summers at Marine Street sunbathing and playing volleyball. She also loved to play tennis and could often be found on the courts at Live Oak Park. Patty had many friends growing up and was very athletic.

Patty attended all Manahattan Beach schools, including Pacific Elementary and Center Junior High, and graduated from Mira Costa High School. At Mira Costa, Patty was part of the modern dance club and enjoyed her social life growing up by the beach. In 1964, Patty married her high-school sweetheart, Tommy Brookes, and they started their life together. Patty attended El Camino College and worked for both the family business, Brookes Electric Company and later as a legal secretary at the Law Offices of Barry, Fredericks and Woods for several years before having children.

Patty was a wonderful mom and loved her children deeply. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed celebrating the holidays with family and friends. Patty had an appreciation for movies and music and loved to dance. Patty also volunteered her time in several classes at Meadows Elementary School. Patty enjoyed going to concerts and did so often with her two children.

Patty will be deeply missed most for her beautiful personality, big laughter and wonderful sense of humor. Patty is survived by her older sister, Nancy Sansom of Concord, California; her younger brother, Michael Nichols of Columbia Missouri; her daughter Lara Brookes; her son Matthew Brookes (Maria Marquez-Brookes) and her grandson, Harrison Brookes. A ceremony and burial at sea is being planned for this summer off the coast of Marine Street, the place Patty loved and would want to be remembered.
