Michael Albert Schafer Obituary
Michael Albert Schafer was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming on January 20, 1942 to parents Ethel Greene and Henry Albert Schafer. On Wednesday, September 4, 2019, at the age of 77, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away while surrounded by his adoring family. He will be reunited in Heaven with his late daughter Denise and many loved ones.

Mike graduated from Saint Mary's high school and went on to attend the University of Wyoming, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science. After graduating, Mike moved to Manhattan Beach where he met his love, Barbara, and the two were married in 1980. Together, Mike and Barbara raised their daughter Denise (Eric), son Matthew (Alicia), and daughter Meghan (Michael). Mike was the absolute best grandfather to his five grandchildren, Justin (20), Sydney (18), Finley (1), Madison (2 months) and Sloane (2 months) and will be missed immensely.

Mike had an unfaltering work ethic and loved working for Healthcare Partners, where he was employed since 1994 as Senior Manager, Facilities. He was a devoted Catholic and a dedicated parishioner of American Martyrs Church, where he served as an usher for many years. He was a one-of-a-kind, authentic man who had the biggest heart and made everyone around him feel loved. Mike had a zest for life and was happiest spending time with family and friends, watching sports (Go Cal Bears and Broncos), drinking wine, traveling, and dancing.

As his wife Barbara would often say to him, "you can take the man out of Wyoming, but you can't take the Wyoming out of the man."

A MEMORIAL CELEBRATION OF MIKE'S LIFE WILL BE HELD ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 13 AT 10 A.M. AT AMERICAN MARTYRS CHURCH. 624 15TH STREET, MANHATTAN BEACH, CA 90266.
