Margaret McKay Burns Cilurzo
November 29, 2017

Margaret McKay Burns Cilurzo, four days short of her 80th birthday, passed away suddenly but peacefully in Franklin, TN on November 29, 2017.

Margaret was born on December 3, 1937 in Bronx, NY, daughter of the late Henry P. Burns and Martha McGinnigle Burns, both natives of Scotland and Ireland.

She is predeceased by two brothers, Michael (Dolores) Burns and John Burns; sisters-in-law, Sister Mary Cilurzo and Nickie (Cilurzo) Collar; brother-in-law, Vincenzo Cilurzo.

Margaret leaves behind her husband of almost 54 years, Joseph W. Cilurzo of Franklin, TN; her children, Michele, Joe (Elizabeth), Scott (Kelli), and Jon (Brooke) Cilurzo; grandchildren, Joey, Ethan, Gabriel, Abby, Anthony Joseph, Cameron, Zachary, Jameson and Hendley Grace; brothers, Harry (Eleanor) and James (Jo-Ann) Burns; sisters-in-law, Anna Marie Burns and Anne (Cilurzo) FitzPatrick; also survived by 28 nieces and nephews.

Margaret, also known as Peggy, graduated from St. Anthony's Academy in 1956. She worked in the Human Resources Department at Carrier after graduation until 1965.

Margaret and Joe married on December 28th 1963 in Syracuse. Margaret and Joe moved from Syracuse to Cheshire, CT, then to Hendersonville, NC and back to central NY settling in Rochester. From there they moved to Toledo OH and then to Manhattan Beach, CA. It was here that she and Joe retired and enjoyed the California sunshine for 10 more years. Margaret always made friends easily, and was President of the Beach Cities Newcomers Club, which included Manhattan, Redondo, and Hermosa Beach communities. Margaret and Joe eventually moved to Franklin, TN, where they have been for the past 11 years.

Margaret was an active Roman Catholic, a parishioner at St. Philp Catholic Church in Franklin, TN, an avid reader and a fanatical sports fan, particularly of the Syracuse Orange and the University of Dayton Flyers basketball teams. Over the years she enjoyed traveling with Joe on business as well as to visit family and friends. She and Joe also enjoyed traveling socially abroad to England, Scotland, Ireland, Italy and Australia. Margaret enjoyed playing Bunko and participating in her neighborhood Tapas group and ladies lunches for birthdays and special occasions.

Margaret will be missed dearly by her immediate and extended family. Her humor and love was the glue that kept us all together. She now rests in peace with those loved ones who predeceased her and with her Lord Jesus Christ.
