Joseph Erhard Scholz

Joseph Erhard Scholz was born August 1, 1929 and passed away peacefully on September 24, 2019. He had a well-lived life of 90 years. Joseph moved to Manhattan Beach 65 years ago. A few years after moving to Manhattan Beach, Joseph met his beautiful wife Elaine and they were married for sixty precious years until her death in 2015. Joseph's greatest pride and joy was his family. Joseph's family includes brother Charles Anthony Scholz; sons Joseph (Lori) and Charles; daughter Mary Jane (Robert) Vos; grandchildren Danielle (Zach) Duchene, Jonathan (Trish) Vos, Allyson Scholz, Elaine (Travis McKane boyfriend) Vos, Melissa (Cody) Tankersley and Robert (Tammie) Vos; and great-grandchildren Matthew, Natalia, Robby, Justin and Annie.
Joseph grew up in Watsonville, California and graduated from Watsonville High School in 1947. He worked for his father as a brick mason after graduating high school. In 1954 Joseph moved to Manhattan Beach and worked as a brick mason for Bechtel Corporation in El Segundo. He was later hired by J.B. Mc Galliard to do the brick work on the new American Martyrs Church. Joseph worked as a brick mason for 47 years.
His other jobs included a free baby-sitting service for his grandchildren Jonathan, Elaine and Bobby Vos. Joseph was a very hard working man and dedicated volunteer at American Martyrs Church from building BBQ pits to helping at the Parish Fair. He was a volunteer crossing guard for American Martyrs School on the corner of Laurel Avenue and 15th Street for 18 years. Joseph made many friends wherever he went, either at the corner of 15th and Laurel or at The Huntington Retirement Home. Joseph's hobbies included ham radio operating and playing practical jokes. Joseph brought much joy, laughter and smiles to his family, friends and acquaintances and he will truly be missed. Joseph, may you rest peace and bring laughter to the heavens.

Sorry to hear about your Dad's passing. But you must know by now that he will always be there with you in your heart for the rest of your life just as you were in his heart for his whole life too. Hopefully you have got some time to come to the store and share his memories with me and the rest of the guys there.
