Jerry Lee Burkett Obituary

Jerry Lee Burkett
February 13, 1943 - August 3, 2017

After a 12 year fight with cancer, Jerry Burkett passed away peacefully at home in Manhattan Beach surrounded by family on August 3rd, 2017 at the age of 74.

Jerry was born and raised in Akron, Ohio in 1943 and at the age of 22 left Ohio to follow the California dream. In the late 60's he met his wife Mary Ellen Najera at the famous Tom Bergen's House of Irish Coffee pretending to be an airline pilot, but ultimately she fell for his charm and good looks. Married for 46 years, Mary Ellen suddenly passed away last March from a brain aneurysm, having fully recovered from another 45 years earlier.

Soon after moving to California, Jerry started a short lived local paper, Surf City News and in 1970 he founded Beach City Accounting and Financial Co serving the local community for over 40 years. Jerry enjoyed California life to the fullest, venturing to Tahoe and Big Bear in the winter and his true love of boating and many trips to Catalina Island in the summer.

He was extremely proud of his two sons Stephen and Chris and if you knew Jerry you probably knew more about his sons than you did about Jerry himself.

Jerry went through life with a big heart, never talked a bad word about anyone and was a loyal friend to many. He had a love for adventure, life and a quiet strength. Even in his last days he remained strong and complained about absolutely nothing. A truly amazing individual that will be greatly missed.

A memorial gathering to celebrate the life of Jerry will take place at the family home at 780 Rosecrans Manhattan Beach on Thursday August 24th from 5pm-9pm. Please [email protected] or call 3105458352 if you will attend. All friends and family are welcome.
