Janel Frances Douda passed away peacefully, on December 30th, 2018 with family at her side, following a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was 83 years old. She was born on May 1, 1935, in Manhattan Beach, California, the adored only child of Hassie and Frank Bird. She spent most of her life in the area, where she married her husband Richard Douda and raised two children.
Janel worked for many years as a nurse in the Manhattan Beach Unified School District for both Grandview Elementary and Foster A. Begg Middle Schools. She had many beloved friends in the area. Shortly after retiring, she relocated to Murrieta, to live with her daughter Kristin and son-in-law Pablo, and grandchildren K.C. and Kylia. She moved to Bishop in 2011 to spend time with her son Kevin and his wife Julie and grandchildren Wyatt and Elliott.
Janel loved the beauty of the Eastern Sierras and the many friends she met in her time there. She treasured her four grandchildren above all else. She will be remembered by all for her keen sense of humor and compassion.
Janel will be returned to the ocean and sands of her hometown Manhattan Beach in a private ceremony with family.

Sorry to hear this. I went to school (K through 12) with Janel when, in 1940, most of the populous lived on the high sand dunes overlooking the Ocean. Actually, we both lived about 4 homes apart on a street apply named Bayview Drive, two blocks from the beach. Later, we both raised our children on 29th Street, in The Back Country, with a view of the backside of the sand dune. Our condolences go out to Kristin, Kevin and all the Grandchildren. Rest in Peace Janel.
