1928 - 2019
Long time Manhattan Beach resident Francis (Bud) Freitas passed away early Sunday morning, January 6, 2019. He was 90 years old. Bud was born on January 27, 1928 in Honolulu, Hawaii to parents Clara and Frank Freitas of Hawaii. He remained on the islands until 1957 and then moved to the mainland. Soon after he met his wife Eileen at a wedding. Bud caught the garter, Eileen caught the bouquet, and the rest is history. They lived in Manhattan Beach where they raised their three children Lisa, Mark, and Carla. In 1998 Bud retired from the Department of Water and Power after 40 years of service. He enjoyed a long and healthy retirement in Manhattan Beach where he was a devoted member of American Martyrs Church attending 7:00am services every Sunday. Most mornings Bud could be found in front of Jamba Juice with his beloved coffee group enjoying his first cup of the day.

Bud is survived by his children Lisa (Ron Guidone) of Manhattan Beach, Mark (Christi Freitas) of McKinney, Texas, Carla Freitas of Fort Worth, Texas and his three grandchildren, Nico Guidone, Emma and Andon Freitas, brother Wilbert (Bill) Freitas, niece Marianne Freitas, nephew Larry (Colonel (Ret), US Army) Brede, nephew Mike (Retired Major, Honolulu Police Department) Brede and friend Lynn Rose. A Memorial Mass will be held on March 14th at 10:00am at American Martyrs Church. May Bud ride the waves with the boys of Waikiki.
