Floy "The Don" Ivie Obituary

Floy "The Don" Ivie passed away peacefully in Torrance, CA at the age of 90. He leaves his wife of 56 years, Ella (Felder) Ivie; his sons David (Laura), Bryan and Patrick (Laurie); his grandchildren Donovan, Kacy, Taylor, and Scarlett; and many friends.

Born and adopted in Salt Lake City, Utah, he was raised by his parents Margaret and Maurice Ivie. He is also predeceased by his siblings Arvilla, Marjorie and Earl.

Due to the stock market crash and the Dust Bowl, Floy and his family joined the migration of "Okies" and settled in Santa Ana, CA. After spending his early years in Southern California, the family eventually moved back to Salt Lake City where Floy attended grade and high school. During his senior year of high school, Floy was recruited into the Army Specialized Training Program Reserve.

After serving his commitment to the U.S. Army as a Sergeant in occupied Japan, Floy returned home to Salt Lake City. Using the GI Bill, Floy attended the University of Utah and graduated with high honors in 1949, majoring in Mathematics and minoring in Chemistry. After graduating and working various jobs, Floy moved back to California.

On August 5, 1961, Floy married Ella Felder. Floy provided a wonderful life for his family by proudly working for Shell Oil Company, Space Technology Laboratories and TRW (later Xerox). Floy and Ella loved to support all their sons' interests, especially surfing, music and volleyball. In addition, Floy found much joy in being a grandfather. He loved babysitting, and attending sporting events, plays and school events in support of his grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at Blue Water Grill in Redondo Beach at 11:30 am on October 28, 2017.
