Barbara (Maddock) Newcomb Obituary
Barbara was born on April 24,1938 in Los Angeles and passed away peacefully at her home in Tonto Verde, AZ, surrounded by her family, on September 30, 2017.
Barbara met her husband Dale at Audubon Jr High School and they continued their love through Dorsey High and her education at UCLA where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. They married on February 1,1959 and moved to Manhattan Beach, CA where they lived for the next forty five years. They raised their four children in the beach community. Barbara was a Den mother, Brownie leader, and a member of Sandpipers, the Badminton Club, and the Manhattan Beach Community Church.
With her own children all in school, Barbara completed her own education with a Masters Degree in Special Education and taught for 27 years in the Manhattan Beach School District. She was a Resource Specialist who helped improve the lives of hundreds of students and mentored teachers on best teaching practices for students who learned differently.
Barbara and Dale retired to Tonto Verde where Barbara continued to volunteer her time. She became involved in fundraising for Sunshine Acres, lent her expertise in special education at Montessori Academy, and became a member of the Community Church of the Verdes.
Barbara was smart, classy, and had a beautiful smile. She loved her family, the Hawaiian Islands, and teaching.
She will be missed greatly by her husband Dale, her four children and their spouses: Jim Newcomb(Jean), Juli Lewis Newman(Jon), Linda Daly(John), Krista Cross(Steve), her eight grandchildren: Jonathon and Matt Newcomb, Taylor and Dabrienne Lewis, Emily and Kasey Newman, Mitchel Daly, and Bradon Cross: her sister Marsie Standish(Miles) and by her sister-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
