Joan R. Roney Obituary
Joan Roney, 84, of Hermosa Beach left us in the early morning hours of March 22, 2017 to join her husband John Roney to continue a journey they began in December of 1953. She was born and raised in Los Angeles, graduated from Dorsey High School, and lived the majority of her life in Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach. Joan lived a charmed life, looking out at the amazing Pacific Ocean each and every day. She was a very social individual who hosted extraordinary parties and was a wonderful conversationalist. She and John traveled to destinations far and wide across the globe, either as a couple and with travel groups comprised of friends from Occidental College, the Sandpiper group, or life-long friends from the O'Melveny & Myers Law Firm. She was actively involved in the Sandpiper Philanthropic organization, for which she served as President, remaining involved and supportive throughout her days. She was engaged in Marine League tennis for many years, enjoyed skiing and took up the quest of golf with her husband upon his retirement. Having season tickets for decades, she could be seen supporting her Lakers from floor seats or rooting them on from home during away games. She was also a diehard UCLA football fan. She is survived by her four children: Pam Peterson, Harvey Roney (Joni), Karen Phillips (Dennis), Cynthia Harmon (Doug); her nine grandchildren, Kage (Shawna), Max, John, David (McKenzie), Britta, Piper (Matt), Dolff, Collin, and Kylie; two great grandchildren, Harlow and Wynter; brother Johnny Allen (Charlene), sister Bonnie Laraway (Larry). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in the name of Joan Roney to: Sandpiper Southbay Community Fund, P.O. Box 72, Hermosa Beach, CA 90254. Memorial service will be held at St. Cross Episcopal Church, 1818 Monterey Blvd., Hermosa Beach, CA 90254 on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 3:00pm.

My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told
you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?" John 14:1-2
