Kenneth S. Olsen Obituary

(04/01/1944 – 08/04/2014)

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Kenneth Scheer Olsen Jr. on August 4, 2014, due to cancer.

Ken was born in St. Louis, MO, April 1st, 1944. With his parents and two sisters, the family moved west to the South Bay when he was 7 years old. He attended Lutheran High School and it was there that he met and found his true love, Jimmie Ruth Lawrence, both age 14. They married on September 28, 1968, in Westchester, CA. The young couple loved to travel, spend time at the beach, and in the outdoors, hiking and camping. Together they had two daughters, Kelly and Kensey, and raised them primarily in Manhattan Beach and Palos Verdes.

Ken earned his BS from the School of Engineering, University of Southern California, in 1967. He went on to earn a Masters of Engineering Management from Vanderbilt University in 1969. The bulk of his career was spent in Research and Management at the Southern California Gas Company. After retiring, he founded Take Note Co. and beyond that, he invested in real estate. Ken and Jimmie split their time between Palm Springs and Hermosa Beach.

Ken was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. We will miss his dry, witty sense of humor and sharp intellect. His devotion to his family was endless and though his relationship with his grandkids was cut short, they will never forget the stories he told them, or the sit 'n swing they hung in the foyer from the second level, or how to make and shoot blow darts. His impact was profound.

Ken is survived by his loving daughters, Kelly (Darren) Peers and Kensey Olsen, his grandchildren, Wyatt and Chase Peers, his mother, Lucile Olsen, his sisters, June (Ron) Drager and Rhonda Olsen, and many dear friends.
